Final Project Mood Board
For this blog post, I will be sharing the mood board that I had created for my final project and describing the emotion that it creates and why I chose to make it this way.
The first part of the mood board is the characters. As can be seen, one of the characters is someone looking over their shoulder, as if they are scared or frightened. This would be the main character of the opening as they look like they might be being followed by someone or something, leading to a sense of fright. Another character is shrouded in darkness and seems to be very mysterious. They would be the person following the main character, perhaps meaning to harm them or at least, interact with them in a way that gives the impression of harm. Lastly, there is a group of people at the end who seem to be having a party, juxtaposing the mood created by the previous characters as they exude a feeling of happiness and joy.
There are a couple of settings that take place in the mood board. There is a house at night, possibly the home of the main character as they make their way back to try and find safety from the person potentially following them. Additionally, there is an empty sidewalk, which could be where the main character has to walk through in order to reach their house or car. Also, there is a parking lot, which the main character must have had their car parked and which they must get to in order to get home.
Moving along, there are a variety of different costumes that exist in the mood board. For example, the main character seems to be wearing a suit, implying that they are working or getting home from work, perhaps exhausted. Another costume is a hoodie covering someone's face, to hide themselves from someone, leaving the audience wondering who they are.
The lighting for the mood board varies within the pictures. In many of the pictures, it is very dark and dimly lit, contributing to a sort of horror element, but some of the pictures are brightly illuminated, especially the one that has the party. The lowkey lighting adds to the horror element that the opening is going for by covering the person potentially following the main character in darkness ,not letting them now where the mystery person is and what they are doing. The high key lighting allows the main character and audience to see everything going on around them, like perhaps a surprise party waiting for the main character.
There are a few props used in the mood board in order to express what will be going on in the opening. One of the props is a car, which will be used by the main character to get home after they finish up their work. Another prop is a cake, which may be waiting for the main character at home, unbeknownst to them. Finally, a cake cutter, to be used to cut the cake or potentially to be mistaken for a weapon by the main character as they believe someone may be following them.
